Your eyes are one of the most expressive and defining features of your face, but over time, the natural aging process can lead to changes that may affect their appearance. Upper and lower blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, offers a way to restore a youthful and refreshed look by addressing concerns such as sagging eyelids, puffiness, or under-eye bags.
What Is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the eyelids by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your specific needs.
Upper Blepharoplasty: This procedure focuses on removing excess skin and sometimes fat from the upper eyelids. It can correct drooping lids that may impair vision or give a tired appearance. The goal of the surgery is tp restore a smoother, more defined eyelid contour.
Lower Blepharoplasty: This surgery addresses puffiness and under-eye bags caused by fat deposits or sagging skin. It smooths and tightens the area beneath the eyes, creating a more "refreshed and more youthful" look.
The Procedure
Blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the surgery.
Upper Eyelid Surgery:
An incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid, ensuring minimal visible scarring.
Excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining tissue is adjusted for a smooth, natural look.
Lower Eyelid Surgery:
Incisions are often made just below the lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach) to minimize scarring.
Fat deposits causing puffiness are either removed or repositioned, and loose skin is tightened for a rejuvenated appearance.
The procedure generally takes 1-2 hours, depending on whether you’re addressing one or both eyelids.
